The 2015 way to reveal a car?
This is the demo of the projection mapping and content for the launch of the volkswagen golf at the New York International AutoShow, this year. It's a lot of fun, makes me wish cars had led skins.
PL01 Concept Tank
Polish landforces could be driving these some time soon. It seems to have borrowed ab it from from the tanks in Tron, or maybe not?
Fashion lookbooks can be boring.
Dori Tomcsanyi's 2014/15 autumn/winter campaign is really playful and fun, such an elegant use of a flipbook.
Gif89a Banner Ads from the late 90's
A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of hanging out with the team that I worked with in 1997, at a company called k2 Design Inc. The firm quickly grew from 30 to nearly 100 people while I was there. Because it was so new, and there was so much innovation, the whole thing was sort of exciting an frustrating at the same time.
One area that was growing, was digitaldisplay advertising, or online banner ads. The most economical way of producing and distributing display ads continues to be the animated gif, or GIF89a. When I was an intern at Agency.com I completed a research project on the GIF, in order to understand animation, compression, and palettes.
When I started working as an Art Director out of school in (1997-1998), one of the biggest challenges was translating brand advertising into the paid media formats of the time. The file size limits were closely controlled as not to ruin the user experience. So 468x60 banners had to be under 12k, sometimes if you were lucky you could get 15k. Below are some tests that I did to demonstrate some ideas.
3 frames / 10k / 9 colors – Fire
6 frames / 11k / 13 colors - Random Attention getting banner.
9 frames / 12k / 32 Colors- VolksWagen
10 frames / 11k / 16 colors - Mitsubishi Motors
132 frames / 10k / 16 colors - Financial Services
Business Card Speaker for iPhone5
I have always loved when business cards do something more. Leave it to the Swedes. Pause LJUD&BILD, in collaboration with akestamholst, created a fold out business card on 330 gram Plike Stock, to provide a 17% increase in volume, when used with an iPhone.
Brandisty - your brand assets in the cloud.
A cloud based tool to distribute your brand assets. It's a bit pricey for small companies, but really cheap based on what the big guys pay.
Proto.io = great cloudbased prototyping.
I have been looking for a product that would help me turn my ideas into working prototypes. My partner Kristin Sloan found Proto.io, which we compared against Moqups.com So far I have been really happy with how proto.io handles itself.. it took a bit of time to understand the relationship between elements, but now that I have a working knowledge, it's getting fast...
Color Thief
I recently found this code called "Color Thief" created by Lokesh Dhakar a powerful tool that pulls color palettes from images. I could image this helping create dynamic design systems that use the dominant colors in images to inform color blocks on websites, or even typography.
The Art of Packing
I really love how a brand can become a parent, teaching it's children how to pack their suitcase.
A House as Portable as Furniture
Architect Camino Alonso wanted to create a small, portable, prefab homes, but she didn't want it to feel like a shipping container. Camino, along with her husband and siblings (also architects at their firm Ábaton), created ÁPH80, a tiny home that ships like furniture, but has the style and usability of a smartphone.

The 16th President of RISD
John Maeda was welcomed into the Art Directors Hall of Fame in 2008, at the time I was just joining the ADC board. It was inspiring to be part of an organization that was able to recognize the career of a creative person who is comfortable at the intersection of Design, Technology and Business. Now just 6 years later it is amazing to see what John has accomplished at RISD, bringing technology to the design/education space and what he will do in at EBAY, in the technology/business space.
Searchlight - A Technical Projection Study.
Urban Screen is a group of 8 contributors based in Bremen, Germany who have backgrounds in Architecture, Music, Stage Design, and Media art. They create custom made large scale projections of urban surfaces. This video documents an experiment that they are working on called Search Light. The projector is on a gimbal that is connected to a realtime 3d map of the room, allowing for amazing dynamic projections and for experimentation around artful and purpose driven use cases.
Blade Runner in Water Color
This animation consists of 12 597 handmade aquarelle paintings, each painting is approximately 1,5*3cm in size. Together they form my 35 minute long paraphrase on the motion picture Blade Runner (1982) by Ridley Scott.
