Ads that do stuff Part 2

Concerto Timer: is an advertisement created for Häagen-Dazs by Goodby Silverstein and Jam3 that puts two classical performers atop your ice cream pint while viewed through their iOS app.  If you have two pints, you get two performers. The performers play for 2 minutes, the ideal time to have your ice-cream sit in room temperature to become perfect for consumption. It might also get you to buy two pints...

Timelapse and Architecture.

I found this on my internet hunt this morning.. so beautiful, and so much hard work...

Nightvision is a celebration of the brilliance and diversity of architecture found across Europe. Over the course of three months I journeyed with a friend through 36 cities in 21 countries with the ambition of capturing some of the greatest European structures in a new and unique way. Comprised of thousands of carefully taken photographs, strung together and stabilized in post-production, Nightvision aims to inspire appreciation for these man-made landmarks. Nightvision would not have been possible without my Kickstarter backers, the support of the American University of Paris community, everyone who helped along the way, and of course, those who designed and built these architectural masterpieces.

SWEDEN.

From 2000 till 2003 my life was very swedish. I was working on the Swedish owned Vodka brand, ABSOLUT at TBWA\Chiat\Day, with frequent business class flights to Stockholm. It was during this time that I met Mikael Marticki, Eva Wisten, Jenny Klintberg, Ted Pierson, amongst others.  These 4 swedes and their friends gave me an intimate portrait of swedish culture, and many fond memories.

Recently I spotted this on Upworthy and it made me thinks of the swedes that I have met.

MODERN STUDIO.

From 1993-1997 I went to Syracuse University, I was in the Computer Graphics program a unique program that connected Computer Science with Art. While i was there I met Jeff Linnell.  I haven't ever really had the opportunity to work with Jeff, but have run into him over the years. It has been amazing seeing what he and his team are doing with computer controlled cameras and technology, such an inspiration.

Check out this brand film recently released for Adobe CS6., really inspiring.

UNSOLICITED REDESIGN.

I recently ran into the work of Mark Steven at the Nike Store in Soho, which lead me to his site, where I found a blog post that he wrote on unsolicited redesigns.  In his post which I would recommend reading.  He connects his own unsolicited redesign of Dunkin Donuts in 2010, it's posting to Armin Vit's Brand New Site on April Fools, to a self defined kickstarted project to one of his latest client engagements working directly for Nike on an installation in their SoHo store.

What I take away from this, is that you make your own opportunities. If you don't have the relationships, but you have the talent, the time, and the ambition. You can make something, put it out there, and build an an audience, and the confidence to do more. You can choose to borrow the skin and reputation of a large american brand, as Mark did with Dunkin Donuts, as a redesign, or you can interpret something meaningful in your life like a sneaker.  If you stay focused, and motivated there are larger opportunities ahead.

TIME, A CREATIVE CONSTRAINT.

I discovered these self portaits called 10 seconds by Alma Haser, a London based artist and photographer who is recognized for her portraiture work.

When I first saw the lead photo below,  I thought that it was a bit odd. Then when I watched the film, I got it. She gave herself just 10 seconds to move into position. Amazing how she captures the energy and curiosity of her childhood in these photos. I especially like how she is careful to wear a dress that matches each scenes color.

BUILDING A BETTER MICROWAVE.

 ( via TechCrunch )

New Features:

  • Clock sets/updates itself across the Internet
  • A barcode scanner pulls cooking instructions from an online database. Such a database didn’t actually exist, so he’s building one himself, adding directions as he goes.
  • Voice Commands, like “Microwave, Twenty seconds, Low.” (Alas, Nathan says his kitchen’s acoustics screw this up a bit.)
  • Custom sound effects (because beeps are for chumps).
  • You can control the microwave from your phone. The only uses I can think of for this are: when you know you’ll want microwaved popcorn later and can preload a bag, or when you want to convince your friends that you’re the biggest geek on the planet because you have a microwave that you can control with your phone.
  • It tweets when it’s done cooking, because of course it does.

And while we are talking about microwaves, check out this art created by microwaving objects on simple white plates before and after presented as animated gifs.  ( via Microwhat )

INSPIRATIONAL DOCUMENTARIES.

Over the past few weeks JaegerSloan has been kicking off new projects, and in the process of proposing new ones. A big part of what we do, is to use the narrative documentary style of film making to help businesses tell their stories to three key audiences.

  1. Customers and Potential Customers
  2. Investors and Leadership
  3. Employees and Staff, and Potential Employees.

Since I was in high school I have been playing with cameras, computers, and design tools, and somehow found myself in the service business.  I never expected to be in a position to help businesses through telling their story, or even predicting it.

I thought it would be fun to share some documentaries about businesses and entrepreneurs. Some I have seen, and some I want to see...
